At Helyx Health, psychiatric appointments are primarily focused on evaluation and medication management. Patients seeking ongoing psychotherapy are matched separately with an appropriate psychologist or therapist unless a clinician’s service explicitly includes therapy.
What psychotherapy includes
Psychotherapy involves working with a trained clinician to understand emotional, behavioral, cognitive, relational, or trauma-related patterns. Depending on the patient and therapist, treatment may use CBT, ACT, psychodynamic therapy, interpersonal therapy, DBT-informed skills, exposure-based methods, EMDR, or other approaches.
Therapy is not limited to mild concerns. It may be used across a wide range of symptoms, diagnoses, and life circumstances, sometimes in coordination with psychiatric care.
When both may be helpful
Some patients benefit from combining psychotherapy with medication management. Others use only one service. Combined care may be considered when symptoms are persistent, complex, or insufficiently improved with the current approach.
Medication does not merely “balance brain chemistry,” and therapy does more than provide conversation or emotional support. Both services involve individualized clinical assessment.
