When insomnia continues for weeks or months, it can affect far more than bedtime. Patients may notice changes in concentration, mood, confidence, productivity, and the ability to enjoy daily life. Treatment can help interrupt the patterns that keep insomnia going.
Helyx Health provides individualized insomnia treatment for adults in Beverly Hills and surrounding communities. Care is based on a clinical assessment and may include cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia.
An insomnia evaluation may be useful when you regularly experience one or more of the following:
Your clinician will also consider whether another condition, medication, schedule, or medical symptom may be contributing.
CBT-I is a focused psychological treatment for insomnia. It is designed to change patterns of behavior and thinking that interfere with sleep and to support the biological processes that regulate sleep timing and intensity.
Although CBT-I may include discussion of healthy sleep habits, it goes substantially beyond sleep-hygiene education. It is structured, collaborative, and tailored to information gathered during assessment and treatment.
A clinician may ask you to maintain a sleep diary so that patterns can be reviewed across multiple nights. Treatment may then include carefully planned adjustments to time in bed, a consistent wake schedule, strategies for responding to nighttime wakefulness, relaxation or wind-down practices when appropriate, and cognitive techniques for reducing sleep-related fear and frustration.
The exact plan depends on the patient. Changes should be made with consideration for health history, daytime sleepiness, work demands, and other safety factors.
CBT-I is intended to treat insomnia. A medical sleep evaluation may be more appropriate when the primary concern involves loud snoring, gasping, witnessed breathing interruptions, significant daytime sleepiness, or another symptom suggesting a sleep-related breathing or medical disorder.
Some patients experience both insomnia and possible sleep apnea. In those situations, coordinated assessment may be useful. The Helyx Health intake team can help route the patient to the correct starting point.
