Dr. Madeline Jacobs
Psychiatrist
Dr. Madeline Jacobs, is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist currently practicing with Helyx in California. With a long-standing passion for helping individuals facing mental health challenges, her interest in this field began during high school.
Before starting medical school, Dr. Madeline Jacobs spent two years conducting clinical research at Duke University Medical Center, working with patients suffering from PTSD. This experience provided her with valuable exposure to a diverse range of individuals and the unique ways each person experiences trauma.
Dr. Madeline Jacobs completed her General Psychiatry training at Hartford Hospital/Institute of Living in Hartford, CT. Her training was particularly special, as she had the opportunity to train at one of the oldest psychiatric institutions in the country. This experience allowed her to receive training in both psychotherapy and the biological (medication) aspects of psychiatric interventions, providing her with the best of both worlds. Dr. Jacobs believes that psychiatric medications are only one piece of the treatment puzzle, and often, individuals require additional care, such as psychotherapy, to effectively resolve symptoms.
Dr. Madeline Jacobs spent the final year of her General Psychiatry training at the Oregon Health Science University (OHSU) Child Psychiatry Fellowship Program, focusing on the psychiatric assessment and treatment of children and adolescents. This specialized experience deepened her understanding of child and adult development and provided the opportunity to work with transitional age individuals (adolescents and young adults).
Dr. Madeline Jacobs treats adults of all ages (18 and older) with a wide range of psychiatric and mental health conditions, including adjustment disorders, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorders, phobias, ADHD, trauma-related disorders, loss, low self-esteem, life transitions, relational difficulties, and personality disorders. She has a particular interest in Women’s Mental Health, focusing on treating women during the peripartum and perimenopause periods.
Dr. Madeline Jacobs uses an integrated approach to psychotherapy that combines elements of psychology and neuroscience, primarily informed by psychodynamic principles. This approach helps individuals understand their emotions, thoughts, and behavioral patterns, leading to better control of their symptoms. Her services include diagnostic assessments, psychotherapy (with or without medications), and medication management.
