Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Alexandra Nichols is a licensed psychologist with specialties in anxiety, trauma, grief, and attachment issues. She has experience working with adults with a wide range of mental health conditions including depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, stress, relationship issues, life transitions, dissociation, complex trauma, and chronic health issues.
Dr. Alexandra Nichols completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Counseling and Psychological Services of the University of California, Santa Cruz. She completed her predoctoral internship at the University of Idaho in Moscow Counseling and Testing Center, and obtained her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Palo Alto University after predoctoral work in community mental health, community college, and inpatient settings.
Dr. Nichols uses trauma-informed, Health at Every Size (HAES) and COVID-conscious approaches. Her theoretical orientation is relational, psychodynamic, evidence-based, and culturally sensitive.
Dr. Alexandra Nichols integrates psychodynamic, relational psychoanalytic, somatic, CBT, and solution-focused techniques to meet the needs of clients as therapy progresses. In short- and long-term work, she aims to help clients develop more effective ways to bear strong emotion, to regulate anxiety within a window of tolerance, and to engage deeply in relationships.
Dr. Alexandra Nichols focuses on building affective attunement with curiosity, reflection, and compassion, and she partners with clients in building a deeper understanding of patterns and in developing new ways of coping.
